Brant Monnett, 47, was found unresponsive on a routine check Wednesday.

A man who died after being found unresponsive in his bed at Santa Cruz County Jail Wednesday has been identified as a local resident, a sheriff's spokesperson said.

Jail personnel was doing a routine check at 6:42 p.m. when they found Brant Monnett, 47, of Santa Cruz, unresponsive in his bunk and, after life saving care has unsuccessful, was declared dead, Santa Cruz County Sheriff Lt. Shea Johnson said.

Monnett was arrested on Monday on a probation violation, drug charges, and resisting arrest. Due to his history of drug use and withdrawal symptoms, he had been placed on a drug detoxification program, Johnson said.
