Orgasmic Meditation in Pleasure Point?

Deborah Oppenheim was among a group of people downtown Santa Cruz Saturday wearing shirts that said "Powered by Orgasm" and asking people questions about their love lives.

Oppenheim said the questions – which included, What do you like most about the opposite sex? What confuses you about the opposite sex? – were to publicize a Tuesday evening group meditation that involves orgasms.

Was this a joke? Were there hidden cameras from some MTV show or that lame Donald Trump survivor thing?

Hard to know. Oppenheim said a similar group has been meeting for years in San Francisco, and has been going on quietly in Santa Cruz at the Chi Center at 21511 E Cliff Dr. in Pleasure Point, once a reputed place for houses of orgasm and ill-repute.

She passed out a handout that invited people to check out www.turnonsc.us, which is a legitimate website. Or, a website, anyway. Here's what it says:

"As seen on Nightline and the New York Times, OneTaste is the leader in the Slow Sex Movement.  We teach a partnered sexuality practice called Orgasmic Meditation (OM for short) that bridges the gap between mindfulness and sexuality.  The practice and philosophy of OM will change your sex life, your relationships and might just be the thing that wakes you up.  This meetup group is for those looking to feel more, have greater intimacy and connection in their lives and open to a deeper sexuality."

Anyone remember psychiatrist Wilhelm Reich, who was jailed for promoting orgasm therapy in the 1950s?

So should Santa Cruz Patch go to the weekly meeting Tuesday and report on it? Is there a blogger in the house who wants to?
