Patch Picks: Easter Brunch

Sunny or cloudy, your Easter will be brightened with a delicious brunch at one of these five great Santa Cruz restaurants.

Each year, come Easter Sunday, we feel as if spring has really arrived. And what better way to enjoy Easter than with brunch in one of our excellent restaurants complete with delicious food and fabulous views of green hills, the sparkling sea and the city of Santa Cruz. Here are five great restaurants to help you celebrate the day.

Peachwood’s

Peachwood’s beautiful spring-green setting makes it the perfect spot for your Easter brunch. The restaurant serves up a traditional spread that includes free-flowing champagne, orange juice, a carving station, Belgium waffles with assorted toppings, omelets made to order with over 20 ingredient choices, salads and fresh fruits—and the list goes on with several chafing-dish entrées that change throughout the day. Brunch will be served from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Saturn Café is the place to go for vegans and vegetarians, but anyone can find something scrumptious to eat at this Santa Cruz classic. The restaurant uses organic ingredients whenever possible. The brunch menu features savory and sweet choices such as homemade cheddar biscuits and gravy, organic egg and home fry scramble, eggs Benedict with sliced tomatoes and avocado, pancakes “just like Mom used to make,” French toast made with whole wheat bread and a variety of Mexican food choices. The Saturn is open Easter Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m.

If you haven’t ever been to one of Chaminade’s buffets, you have really missed out! They know how to lay out a spread, and this Easter will be no different with baked ham, a seafood bar, made-to-order omelets and incredible desserts. Kids will get special treatment as they embark on an Easter egg hunt (scheduled for 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.). The lucky child who finds the golden egg will receive a deluxe Easter basket of goodies. Brunch is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations are required. Call 831-475-5600.

Coconut Grove

The Coconut Grove at the has a gourmet lineup of goodies for your dining pleasure on Easter Sunday. The brunch buffet features unlimited champagne and Martinelli’s sparkling cider, roasted lamb, mushroom strata, tilapia with mild ancho pesto cream sauce, seared chicken breasts with caramelized onions & apples, deep dish French toast, fruit, salads, smoked salmon and more! Reservations will be accepted for 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and brunch is served until 2 p.m.

Johnny’s not only serves up mouth-watering food, but the views of the Santa Cruz harbor—the water, boats and diving seagulls—make it a fun destination as well. On the menu for Easter is their regular brunch items plus some incredible specials including a Dungeness crab & asparagus omelet; French toast stuffed with bananas, sweet cream cheese and blueberries; a vegetarian frittata, steak & eggs and oatmeal brulee. Johnny’s will serve brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
