Capitola Breaks Heat Record; Santa Cruz Still Chill

Just six miles difference meant for temperatures of 5-9 degrees more heat.

Capitola set a record, but Santa Cruz is still relatively chill.

Capitola hit a record for the day of 103, but  Santa Cruz, measured at the Boardwalk, was a more comfortable 94. That much difference in six miles south?

Santa Cruz was predicted to be in the 80s today, but broke through that. The Weather Channel is reporting 97 for the high today, at King and Walnut streets.

The average for Santa Cruz this day is 73. The record high was 102 in 1965 and the record low was 30 in 1950.

Let this serve as a friendly reminder not to travel with your dogs today if you plan on leaving them in the car. Temperatures inside parked cars can rise quickly in a matter of minutes.

Also, this is the peak of fire season, so be careful what you light.
