15th Annual Santa Cruz Homeless Memorial
Santa Cruz will join communities around the nation in honoring those who died while homeless in 2013. This national event is held on or close to Winter Solstice, which is the longest night each year and represents the time of year when it is often the coldest and even more difficult for those experiencing homelessness. The memorial allows family, friends, service providers, and community members to honor the lives of those they knew and cared for. To date, 37 individuals died while homeless in Santa Cruz County. An additional 10 people died in 2013 who were in housing at the time of their death, but who had had long periods of homelessness earlier in their lives.
