Touted as the world healthiest dietary regimen, the Paleo[lithic] diet is meant to mimic the diet of pre-agricultural hunter-gatherers. Corresponding to what was available in any of the ecological niches of Paleolithic humans who had access only to whole foods that could be hunted and fished, such as meat, offal and seafood, and gathered, such as eggs, fruit, nuts, seeds, vegetables, mushrooms, herbs and spices.
The Paleo diet is gaining popularity among doctors, elite athletes and anyone interested in staying away from over-processed, high-glycemic, inflammatory foods in favor of nutrient dense foods high in minerals, quality proteins, healthy fats, fiber and vitamins. Studies are proving this type of eating can improve cholesterol profiles, shrink waistlines and help sustain healthy blood sugar.
