Generating a Buzz: Raising Awareness About our Endangered Honeybees

Did you know that over 30% of our honeybees die every year? A third of all food crops we consume is pollinated by bees. These beloved, humble creatures have been working for centuries to serve us. Learn how it is now our turn to go work for them.

Come to the museum for an evening that will bring awareness to our community and teach you how to make the environment a healthy place for honeybees starting right in your own backyard.

Join us for the screening of Vanishing of the Bees, the 2009 documentary film that centers around the sudden disappearance of honeybees from beehives around the world. The film will be followed by a Q&A with local beekeepers, including Ian Coulson of the Santa Cruz Beekeeping Guild, who will further share his expertise in beekeeping and an observation hive. Tips on how to create a honeybee friendly environment will also be made available, as well a demonstration by Wax Works West on encaustic arts with a chance for you to participate!
