Relearning Garden: Arboretum & Amah Mutsun Tribal Band

Rick Flores, Curator of the California Native Plant Collections at the UCSC Arboretum, will present The Relearning Garden: A Collaboration with the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band.

Come learn about the land management practices and use of native plants for food, tools, religion, art, and medicine and why preserving and passing on this wisdom is so important.

In 2009, the Arboretum staff and Amah Mutsun tribal members recognized their mutual respect and interest in ethnobotany and came together to create the Relearning Garden. On the 40 acre parcel known as the California Native Gardens, the Relearning Garden will unfold as a place where traditional plant gathering and tending will coexist with educational and interpretive programs.
