“Annie Oakley meets Pablo Casals.” – Poet Paul Zarzyski
Few have done more to move the cello front and center in jazz, folk, and pop/rock circles than Renata Bratt. Her musical tastes encompass everything from the formal stylings of classical chamber ensembles to the informal, free-wheeling atmosphere of a jazz jam session, or country fiddle hoedown. Her String Land group features Deby BentonGrosjean – violin, Kristen Strom – saxophone, Scott Sorkin – guitar and John R. Burr – piano. When she is not touring, Bratt is usually teaching music. A strong advocate for music education, she has been named Kuumbwa’s Artist-in-Residence for 2012 – 2013. Her latest CD, A Slice of Summer, features an inventive mix of original, jazz-influenced compositions and traditional folk.
