Be a Voter! Polls Open at 7 a.m. and Close at 8 p.m.

Election Day is Tuesday, June 5. Time to vote!

Tuesday, June 5, 2012 is Election Day!

I encourage each of the 146,937 voters in Santa Cruz County to get out and vote. In fact, 21,476 have already voted!

If you are one of the more than 42,000 voters who still have your vote-by-mail ballot, it is too late to mail it back. Instead, please drop it off at one of the 130 polling places in Santa Cruz County. http://www.votescount.com/jun12/polls.pdf

Ballots may also be dropped off without having to leave your car at the drop box in front of the county building at 701 Ocean Street in Santa Cruz or on Union Street in Watsonville by the Police Department.

To find out where you are assigned to vote, you can go online to http://www.co.santa-cruz.ca.us/ele/jun12/root0605/pollplac.htm Or voters can call our office at 831-454-2060 and then press 1.

If you go to the polls to vote, please thank the poll workers. Election day could not happen without the hundreds of volunteers who serve in the polls on election day.

If anyone needs assistance on election day, please give us a call at 831-454-2060. We have two election clerks who can deliver a ballot to your home if needed.

As for results, we will release the totals for the vote-by-mail ballots that have been counted by 8:30 p.m. Votes from the polls will be added in as they are received which usually starts around 10:30 p.m. At the end of the evening, which will be the early a.m. hours of Wednesday morning, we will post semi-official election results.

Starting at 8 a.m., Wednesday, June 6, we will begin our canvass of the election which includes processing all remaining vote-by-mail ballots, auditing the polls, recounting to ensure accuracy, and researching the provisional votes. The final election results will be certified by July 3 or sooner.

If there are any questions on concerns on election day, please call us at 831-454-2060 or email me at gail.pellerin@co.santa-cruz.ca.us
