UPDATE: Ways to Support the Families of Slain Santa Cruz Police Officers

Donations of any amount can be made at any Bay Federal Credit Union branch, or mailed to 3333 Clares Street, Capitola, CA 95010. Checks should be made payable to the Santa Cruz Police Officers Association.

Updated 5 p.m., Feb. 28: Whole Foods in Santa Cruz is accepting donations to the Santa Cruz Police Association. Donations can be made at the store. 

Update 5:18 p.m. The City of Santa Cruz has established a "Baker/Butler Scholarship Fund" to support the families of two Santa Cruz police officers killed Tuesday in a confrontation with a suspect on Branciforte Avenue.

Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo branch anywhere in the U.S., Marcus Pimentel, city finance director, said Wednesday afternoon. The Wells Fargo account number is 999 245 1154, Pimentel said.

Donations call also be mailed to the City of Santa Cruz, Attn: "Baker/Butler Scholarship Fund," 809 Center Street, Room 101, Santa Cruz CA 95060, Pimentel said.

Credit card donations can be made over the phone during normal business hours by calling 831-420-5070, with no cost to donors, Pimentel said.

All funds received by Wells Fargo and the city's Finance Department address will be held in a special trust to be distributed to the families of Detective Elizabeth Butler and Det. Sgt. Loran "Butch" Baker, Pimentel said.

The City of Santa Cruz is aware of the fund established by the Bay Federal Credit Union, and city staff have coordinated with the credit union to ensure donations are directed to the "Santa Cruz Police Officers Association" for distribution to the fallen officers' families, Pimentel said.

Posted 4:38 p.m. A fund has been established at a Santa Cruz County credit union to support the families of two Santa Cruz police officers killed Tuesday in a confrontation with a suspect on Branciforte Avenue.

Bay Federal Credit Union, in partnership with Central Coast News KION/KCBA, has set up the fund to support the families of Detective Elizabeth Butler and Det. Sgt. Loran "Butch" Baker, a credit union representative said in a statement.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Detective Butler and Sergeant Baker," Carrie Birkhofer, president and CEO of Bay Federal, said in the statement. "We hope these donations will help them with the many financial needs they will undoubtedly face."

I like the sound of James' new music and believe he has shown significant growth between his debutRead More album and his second. But to say he was "the real winner of his season of 'American Idol'" is disingenuous. He faltered down the stretch compared to the other finalists.

This show was exceptional, James is a natural on stage and shines with the brightest stars. I amRead More proud to say I was hooked and reeled in from the first notes sang during Idol auditions. As a life long lover of a variety of music I can safely say I see nothing but great things in this young man's future. He had me first as a singer,soon thereafter as a performer and now as James DURBIN, singer, song writer, performer and artist. He continues to grow and push himself toward stardom and I am proud to be Right Behind him all the way.
