Felton Offers Big City Beauty Services

A review of new beauty businesses in Felton.

New York. London. Paris. Felton. I've always felt that Feltonians are exceptionally good-looking people. The addition of two new businesses makes it more convenient, affordable and safer than ever for locals to look and feel terrific.

Serving women, men and children, Family Nails & Spa opened February 1st and is offering 20 percent off all services from now through April 1st. The business is managed by Linda Le and her assistant Nina Le. Both women are Vietnamese Americans. Linda has been in the U.S. For 23 years. Nina arrived four years ago. Linda and Nina both live in San Jose and hope to be able to move to Felton soon.
The business is touting itself as the "healthiest and cleanest nail care center" and my experience there certainly supports this claim. Family Nails & Spa is located at 6264 Highway 9 near New Leaf in Felton. The newly remodeled building feels like a spa in a much larger city.

Felton has several nail salons. What I like about this one is that it offers waxing services in addition to manicures and pedicures. I enjoyed a relaxing pedicure from Nina, a talented and meticulous nail artist who added an exquisite, hand painted floral design to my pampered tootsies. (A selection of specialty "spa pedicures" are also available featuring "renewing rose," "rejuvenating rosemary," or "relaxing lavender" products.) Linda then showed me into a private room for my lower leg wax. In addition to lovely and healthful, the buzzword here is again, meticulous. Thoughtful, too. A delicious cup of sweet Vietnamese coffee, compliments of Linda, capped my world-class spa experience.

I've been a fan of hair stylist Tina Innocenti since her first local gig at the now-defunct "All About You" salon. Tina's one-woman Heads Up Hair Studio opened in January in the tiny space across the street, occupied for 38 years by Dennis Booth's Captain Clippers Barber Shop. A Felton institution, Dennis passed away last year. I can't think of a better way to honor Dennis's memory and barbering legacy. Tina and her husband Brian have given the space a spiffy facelift yet managed to retain its small town charm.
An Ohio native, Tina has been styling women's, men's, and children's hair for 23 years. I have naturally "big" hair and Tina is a master at giving me the sleek and shiny look that makes me feel like a star without the Hollywood price tag. Tina also offers facial waxing and selected manicure services too, so it might be tricky to pick your favorite provider. Heads Up Hair Studio is located at 6259 Highway 9 next to Outback Trading Company (a gem of a store featuring unique women's fashions hand-selected by proprietress Claire Campbell).
For appointments, call Tina at 831/239-7506. Call Linda and Nina at 831/335-3076. My suggestion? Book a relaxing spa experience, have your hair done by a pro, treat yourself (or your sweetheart) to something pretty at Outback, then stop by nearby White Raven coffeehouse for a pick-me-up and casual conversation. And have a beautiful day.
