5 Arrested at DUI Checkpoint Saturday Night

You have to be stupid or drunk to drive up to a DUI checkpoint after police alert the public where they are going to be.

But even telling the public to avoid the area, police still netted five people driving under the influence and towed three cars.

Here are the stats from Santa Cruz Police:

484 drivers entered checkpoint (including this Patch editor)
16 sent to secondary screening area
5 arrested for DUI
3 driving on revoked or suspended license
8 citations issued
3 vehicles towed

The checkpoint was on Ocean Street, in front of the courthouse, heading toward Highway 17. It was set up from 10:30 p.m. - 2:30 a.m.
