Alert Santa Cruz Officer Catches Alleged Tagger in the Act

Officer Eric Coffey saw three people yelling and drinking Saturday morning in a parking lot near Denny's. Then, he saw that they were yelling at a fourth man who was tagging.

Santa Cruz Police Officer Eric Coffey was doing extra checks along the Ocean Street corridor Saturday morning when he spotted two men and two woman in a parking lot on the 1500 block (near Denny's) and one of the women was yelling at one of the men.

When he pulled up, there were three open containers of alcohol and the woman was yelling at a fourth man sitting alone in the bushes. On closer examination, the officer saw the man was tagging a building and had the pens in his hand and his name scrawled on the wall.

He arrested Alfredo "Junior" Ceda, 32 for tagging, probation violation and participating in street gang activity. It turned out the other three people didn't know Ceda and the woman was yelling at him for tagging.
