Armed Robber Flees Store After Struggle With Employee

The Santa Cruz Police Department are still on the hunt for a man who robbed a business in Santa Cruz on Saturday night.

A man armed with a shotgun who robbed a business in Santa Cruz on Saturday night fled the store after an employee tried to wrestle his gun away.

After entering the store in the 200 block of California Street around 8:30 p.m., the man wielded his shotgun and demanded cash from an employee, police said.

The worker attempted to snatch the weapon away and briefly struggled with the suspect, according to police. The employee suffered minor injuries.The armed man then fled the store on foot without any money or merchandise.

Officers were called to the scene and searched the area with the help of a police K-9, Lobo, but were unable to find the man.

The suspect is described as a man of unknown race in his 20s who is approximately 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 4 inches tall, according to police.

He was wearing a blue beanie, black patterned bandana, gray hooded sweatshirt, black gloves, black pants, white socks and black slip-on shoes at the time of the robbery.
