Update: Armed Robbery Outside Bank

The heist left downtown Santa Cruz on lockdown while police searched for the robber Wednesday. No one was hurt.

An armed robber asked for money from a worker at the Bay Federal Credit Union at 410 River Street around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, prompting an extensive manhunt downtown for the robber, Santa Cruz police reported.

Around 11:15 a.m., officers were still involved in an active chase downtown. Some roads were closed and businesses were on lock down, witnesses reported.

Closures included River Street from downtown north to Highway 1, according to social media reports.

One description released said the suspect was a Latino man wearing a black jacket, black bandanna, gray pants and black hooded sweat shirt.

The Sentinel reports that the man asked for money outside the building and the woman screamed, prompting people inside to lock the door. No one was hurt.
