Attempted Suicide in Downtown Santa Cruz

A resident of the Palomar Inn was transported to Dominican Hospital after jumping from a fourth-floor window.

A 43-year-old man jumped from the fourth-floor window of the Palomar Inn in an attempted suicide at around 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, the Santa Cruz police reported.

The incident was reported by an unidentified resident of the Palomar Inn, according to police Capt. Steve Clark. The witness was looking out a top-floor window and saw a person lying on the hotel's marquee. Clark said the witness described the scene, saying there was “a lot of blood” around the prostrate person.

Emergency vehicles, including fire and ambulance, were called to the scene.

Clark said all indications are the victim meant to jump from the window and that there is no reason to suspect foul play.

The man appeared to have severe internal injuries and broken bones, Clark said, and he was transported to Dominican Hospital. There is no information on his condition at this time.
