A 75-year-old bicyclist lost control and went over his handlebars on Saturday morning, around 10:30 a.m., according to the Santa Cruz Police Department.
The man was riding westbound on King Street, and struck the pavement near the intersection of King and Baldwin Streets. According to witnesses there were no vehicles involved in the crash.
The man suffered major injuries and was treated by AMR Paramedics as well as Santa Cruz Fire Department personnel before being transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators are waiting for coroner results to determine the exact cause of death, according to the Santa Cruz Police Department.
