Big Pot-Growing Bust in Center of Santa Cruz
The Water Street business is near a day care center and a school.
Santa Cruz Police shut down Good Guys Diesel and Bio-Mechanics at 1191 Water St. Thursday at 2:45 p.m. after they found 100 marijuana plants and 20 pounds of marijuana in a sophisticated growing lab.
No one was arrested, but police are reviewing records which have already tied the diesel business to the pot farm. Officers also found grow lights, ventilation systems and a drying room. Police said they suspect higher volumes were grown there, but they entered mid-harvest.
Neighbors allerted police to the business. Police are trying to find the owner and have red tagged the building because of illegal construction and electrical wiring violations.
