Cops Pop Two for Meth Downtown

A bag of meth was reportedly found in a Toyota 4Runner along with two men.

Santa Cruz police spotted two men doing what appeared to be drugs at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Toyota 4Runner parked in a lot on the 100 block of Laurel Street.

Two officers approached the car, one on each side, and said they saw one of the men trying to hide a bag of crystal meth.

Arrested were Thomas Gainsborough, 61, of Santa Cruz, and Sonny Harper, 36, of Boulder Creek. Gainsborough was charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drugs and a weapon and probation violation. Harper was charged with loitering with the intent of buying drugs.
