Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies have detonated a handmade incendiary device found Sunday afternoon in Aptos.
Around 3:20 p.m., deputies received a call about “an incendiary device consisting of household cleaning products contained in a 2-liter plastic soda bottle,” in a dirt parking lot of the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park entrance, the Santa Cruz Sentinel reported.
A “robot” imploded the device since it had not yet been detonated. Aptos Creek Road was closed for about an hour during the process.
It was not the only detonation device discovery in the area: on Thursday, Watsonville police discovered a live grenade in a rented U-Haul truck.
