False Bomb Arrest in Downtown—Second in Two Weeks

Scotts Valley man, 22, arrested.

Santa Cruz police arrested Scotts Valley resident Christopher Childers Saturday at 2:30 p.m. after he allegedly walked into a building, set down a wooden box and said something about "42 seconds" and explosives before leaving.

Security evacuated the building, but police quickly determined it wasn't a bomb, although it had vials and a clock inside.

Soon after, police spotted Childers, who matched the description of the suspect, at Pacific and Church streets.
