Fire Crew Rescues Wind Surfer Sunday

Firefighters helped the windsurfer to shore.

A Santa Cruz fire crew rescued a windsurfer who was struggling in the water off West Cliff Drive and Stockton Avenue at 4:09 p.m. Sunday.

Fire rescue swimmers helped him get to shore while the Harbor Patrol boat waited nearby in case further help was needed.

The rescued surfer said he was having mechanical issues with his boom. Nine firefighters, two engines, a lifeguard truck and the patrol boat were called to the scene.
