Fire Crews Contain One-Acre Pogonip Blaze Saturday

The fire was near the railroad tracks and was stopped before it got to wooded areas.

Six engines and 21 firefighters stopped a blaze Saturday in the Pogonip that could have threatened wooded areas and homes.

The fire was reported at 6 a.m. and was in a steep wooded area near the railroad tracks near one of the many encampments that have been responsible for a recent spate of fires.

Firefighters from UCSC, Santa Cruz Fire, Central Fire and Cal-Fire fought the flames and contained them to one acre about a quarter mile away from the clubhouse.
