Gunman Opens Fire on Car

No arrests in shooting early Friday in the lower Ocean Street neighborhood.

Shots were fired at a man driving in the lower Ocean Street neighborhood early Friday, police reported.

There were no injuries, and no arrests have been made. Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the shooter.

Just before 12:30 a.m., police got reports from 911 callers about shots fired near Barson and Campbell streets. Officers searched the area but didn't find any suspects or victims, police said.

About 20 minute later, the victim contacted police. The 32-year-old Santa Cruz man said he had been driving on Barson Street when a red Honda or Nissan sedan drove past and someone inside shot at him, according to police

He was not hit. The gunman's vehicle drove away and turned north on Campbell. Officers again searched but were not successful in finding the car or the shooter, police said.

The gunman was a Latino man in his 20s with a thick moustache. He was wearing a red hat and white T-shirt, police said. The driver was a Latino man wearing a dark sweatshirt, and there was a third man in the car, according to police.
