Update: UCSC Community Services Officer With Huge Cache of Weapons Arrested for Planning Grand Theft

Santa Cruz Police Friday arrested Nicholas Charles Yukich, 54, of Live Oak, whom they say was planning to rob a local business.

Police arrested Yukich in the early morning hours after informants reported that he was the mastermind behind a planned theft and attempted to recruit others into the scheme. They are withholding the name of the business for security concerns.

ABC 7 reports that Yukich works as a community services officer guarding UCSC at night. He has been suspended pending investigation.

Police set up a sting to arrest him after serving a search warrant on his home in the Beachcomber Mobile Home Park on Mattison Lane and finding a cache of weapons - including assault weapons and armor piercing shells - hidden behind a fake wall.

They seized 48 weapons and 50,000 rounds of ammunition.

Informants told police that Yukich had done surveillance of his intended target and tried to recruit people to help him.

Yukich is being held in Santa Cruz County Jail on $500,000 bail for conspiracy to commit grand theft.
