Man Airlifted for Injuries in Mobile Home Park Fire

A man was injured in a mobile home park fire in unincorporated Live Oak on Friday night, a fire spokesman said.

Fire crews from the Central Fire Protection District of Santa Cruz County responded to a report of a structure fire in the 1200 block of 38th Avenue around 10:25 p.m. Friday, district spokesman Mike DeMars said.

The blaze was at a unit near the entrance of a mobile home park, DeMars said. Firefighters had to find a fire hydrant outside of the park because they were unable to find a water supply at the property, he said.

The fire was under control about an hour later at the mobile home, according to DeMars. Fire crews found the resident of the home sitting on a curb suffering from smoke inhalation and burns.

He was airlifted to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, according to DeMars. Investigators learned that the resident had knocked on a neighbor's door to ask for help while his clothes were still smoldering from the blaze.

The home was declared a total loss and two vehicles were also damaged by the fire, DeMars said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
