Man Arrested for Threatening Parking Officers After Calling Chief of Police to Complain

Chistopher Jasinsky thought that by taking the battery out of his cell phone, he couldn't be tracked after he called the Chief of Santa Cruz Police, Kevin Vogel to complain about being named a wanted man.

Little did he know. He was arrested while walking on the 700 block of Branciforte Avenue, not for making a rude call to the police chief, but for outstanding warrants for threatening parking meter control officers.

"We have ways to ping a cell phone even if the battery is out," said Deputy Police Chief Steve Clark. "It's not like the stuff going on with the NSA right now. We can't hear your conversation. But we can track a phone's location."

Jasinsky was upset about seeing himself on KION-TV's "Manhunt Monday" feature in which the station lists people wanted by the police. (Patch has the same feature on Fridays, called Fugitive Friday.)

His call was "rude and aggressive," said Clark, but not threatening. However, after it, Vogel dispatched detectives to pick up the 45-year-old fugitive.

Jasinsky had an outstanding warrant for making "significant and specific threats" to a parking control officer over a disputed citation in April. Detectives found he had a history of such threats, police said.

Jasinsky was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on a charge of making threats to a public officer. When he was picked up, he told police he thought he couldn't be found because he took the battery out of his cell phone.
