Man Killed on the Westside Friday Night

The homicide is the fourth in the city of Santa Cruz this year.





A man was shot and killed on Mission Street near a fast food restaurant Friday night, authorities reported.

The road is closed between Almar Avenue and Bay Street until further notice, Santa Cruz police reported through a Nixle alert around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. 

The man was driving when he was shot at around 10:45 p.m. He crashed his car into a Burger King restaurant, according to emergency radio traffic.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been announced.

The killing marks the fourth homicide in Santa Cruz this year.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel reported that the victim was driving a silver four-door Honda and police are searching for a light-colored Nissan.
