Man Sought After Santa Cruz Police Killings May Have Lived in Berkeley

Police issued a be-on-the-lookout for a 35-year-old man, who gave a Berkeley address after an unrelated arrest last week.

Two Santa Cruz police officers and a suspect died in a shooting Tuesday, and at one point as the events unfolded police there said they were looking for Jeremy Peter Goulet, 35, as a person of interest in the case.

There were conflicting reports about whether police still believed any other suspects might be at large.

At this point, it's unclear what Goulet's connection, if any, is to the shootings, which were reported at 3:30 p.m.

In those initial reports, according to the Santa Cruz Sentinel, a police bulletin said Goulet has three weapons registered to him, including a .40-caliber semi-automatic Sig Sauer.

The Sentinel also reported that Goulet was arrested by Santa Cruz police on Friday on suspicion of disorderly conduct at 801 N. Branciforte Ave., the same block where the shooting was reported Tuesday. Goulet listed his occupation as a barista. The Sentinel reported that he worked at the Kind Grind in Santa Cruz Harbor until last week.

The web site LocalCrimeNews.com gave Goulet's address as 2728 Benvenue Ave., Apt. 3, in Berkeley, an apartment building a block from College Avenue and about two blocks from Ashby Avenue. A neighbor said Tuesday evening that a man who lived in that apartment had moved in September.

According to OregonLive.com, Goulet was arrested for spying on a woman in a shower in Northwest Portland in 2008. He also told a judge that he liked to videotape unsuspecting women on his cell phone in his spare time.

OregonLive.com also reported that Goulet carried a gun without a license in 2008, and got into an altercation with a man in which the gun went off.
