Man Who Broke Into Couple's Home and Stole Car Could Face Life in Prison

The man who allegedly broke into a couple's home, stole their pickup and led police on a chase last week was charged with five felony counts Tuesday.

If convicted, this would be three strikes for David Robert Mason, 49, who has a history of three robbery convictions in Monterey and Santa Clara counties dating back to 1987. Judge Paul Burdick ordered him held on bail of $1 million.

Mason allegedly broke into a couple's home around Mission and Water streets and took their car, after telling them he had a gun.

A chase through the Beach Street neighborhood by police ended later when he hit a center divider where Mission turns into Water Street.
