Motorcyclist Killed in Tuesday Crash in Santa Cruz

A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday following a crash on state Highway 1 in Santa Cruz, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP has not released the identity of the victim, a 47-year-old San Jose resident. The CHP said the motorcyclist was traveling south on state Highway 1 north of Morrissey Boulevard around 4 p.m. when he struck a slowing pickup truck from behind.

Investigators said the driver of the pickup began to slow due to heavy traffic when the motorcyclist ran into the rear of the truck and was thrown from his motorcycle.

The collision is still under investigation, but the CHP said alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

Two lanes of southbound state Highway 1 were closed for longer than an hour following the crash.
