Pet Cat Saved in Saturday Night Fire

Nearly a half million dollars in damage to the home on Emeline Avenue.

 

A house was badly damaged and a pet cat injured in a fire in Santa Cruz on Saturday night, according to the fire department.

Firefighters responded to reports of a structure fire at a home at 719 Emeline Ave. at about 11:10 p.m., according to the Santa Cruz Fire Department.

Crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to neighboring homes and the fire was quickly extinguished, officials said.

During the course of bringing the fire under control, a pet cat was found by firefighters and resuscitated, officials said.

The fire damaged or destroyed most of the house and its contents, causing about $450,000 worth of damage, officials said.

The cause remains under investigation.
