Photo of the Day: CHP Stops Traffic Before the Fish Hook to Clean Up

A California Highway Patrol officer looked like he was driving drunk, weaving between northbound lanes on Highway 1 Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Startled drivers were stopped suddenly Tuesday at 4 p.m. as the Highway Patrol stopped fast-moving traffic on Highway 1, before the Fish Hook.

Was there a bad accident? Glass on the road? An oil slick?

We waited and wondered, finally, seeing that someone had lost a pile of flattened empty aluminum cans, which were swept up as traffic halted.

Traffic was unusually light at that hour. It seems that Santa Cruzans are either at Burning Man or on pre-Labor Day vacation.
