Police: Boys Chase Suspect From Park

Man in 60s made inappropriate sexual comments and hit a boy in San Lorenzo Park, according to report.

Santa Cruz police are looking for a man in his early 60s who drives a white VW van and is suspected of hitting a boy at San Lorenzo Park on Sunday.

The suspect overheard a group of four boys talking about going swimming and asked if he could join them. Then he made inappropriate sexual comments and told them they could “wrestle” with him, the police reported.

The boys, all younger than 18, starting yelling at the man and telling him to leave the park. During the argument, the man hit one of the boys on the side of the head, according to the police report.

The boys kept yelling at the man to leave and followed him to a VW van parked on Dakota Avenue. Another man got out of the van and told the suspect it was time to leave, police reported.

The van was last seen turning right on Soquel Avenue, from Dakota, driving toward downtown.
