The Santa Cruz Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occured late Saturday night.
Shortly after 10 p.m., officers responded to the area of Laurel St and Cedar St, for a report of a fight involving 3 subjects.
When they arrived, the officers found an adult male suffering from two stab wounds in the parking lot located at 221 Laurel St.
The victim was stabbed in the chest and abdomen. He was transported to Dominican Hospital, and later flown by helicopter to a trauma center.
During their initial investigation, the victim told officers he was attacked by two Hispanic males in the parking lot. However, the victim’s statements conflicted with what witnesses reported seeing.
There is little description of the subjects. Both were described as 17- to 18-years-old with dark hair. One may have been wearing a gray-colored hooded sweatshirt. The other is said to have had an unknown-colored striped shirt.
Officers located a loaded firearm and evidence of blood in a neighboring front yard.
Police detectives are continuing to process the scene and conduct follow up inquiries. They anticipate filing charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
