Police Looking for Man Who Pistol-Whipped Another Outside the Catalyst

The suspect ran away, using pedestrians to hide behind. The victim wasn't cooperative with police.

A Santa Cruz Police officer doing alcohol enforcement spotted a fight at 10:40 p.m. Thursday outside the Catalyst. As she approached to break it up, one of the men pulled out a silver .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol and began hitting the other man with it, according to police lieutenant Warren Barry.

As the officer came closer, the man pointed the gun at the victim's head, but ran away when he spotted her. She drew her gun and he ran away ducking behind people on the sidewalk along southbound Pacific Avenue.

Police found his gun under a parked car at a parking lot at Elm and Cedar streets and found the cap and sweatshirt he was wearing around Elm Street.

However, they couldn't find the suspect, even with the help of a police dog.

The victim sustained cuts to the head, but refused medical treatment.  At this point in the investigation the victim uncooperative and did not want to press charges.

The suspect was last seen wearing a white dress shirt with blue and red stripes and blue jeans. The investigation is continuing.
