Police Start the Year With Two Burglary Arrests
2013 was unlucky for two people arrested for burglary in its first hours. One was confronted with a flare and a samurai sword; the other had in his possession a collection of women's panties.
A man was arrested while urinating on the front steps of a home he was accused of breaking into at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Residents of the home on the 300 block of Walnut Avenue called police after seeing a man inside the home. A woman said she saw him standing over her bed and her boyfriend confronted the burglar with a samurai sword and a flare.
The man fled, police, said, as the couple called 9-11. Police said they found Jose Manuel Gomez, 23, of Watsonville, urinating on the front door. They arrested him and a judge posted his bond at $50,000 because he has an extensive record of trespassing and sexual battery.

A 16-year-old was arrested on the 100 block of Pearl Street after a woman saw him in her bathroom shortly before 6 a.m. Monday. The woman heard a noise and saw the light on in her bathroom. Then, she said, a person went out the window to a nearby apartment.
Police went there and arrested a juvenile, 16, who was allegedly in possession of underpants from the woman and from other women. He was booked into juvenile hall.
