Police Start the Year With Two Burglary Arrests

2013 was unlucky for two people arrested for burglary in its first hours. One was confronted with a flare and a samurai sword; the other had in his possession a collection of women's panties.

A man was arrested while urinating on the front steps of a home he was accused of breaking into at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Residents of the home on the 300 block of Walnut Avenue called police after seeing a man inside the home. A woman said she saw him standing over her bed and her boyfriend confronted the burglar with a samurai sword and a flare.

The man fled, police, said, as the couple called 9-11. Police said they found Jose Manuel Gomez, 23, of Watsonville, urinating on the front door. They arrested him and a judge posted his bond at $50,000 because he has an extensive record of trespassing and sexual battery.
