Possible Shark Sighting off Pleasure Point

A surfer reported seeing a shark’s dorsal fin about 100 feet from the shore on Saturday morning.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department said it received a report from a surfer about 9 a.m. Saturday that he had seen a shark’s dorsal fin just outside the second break off Pleasure Point.

The surfer estimated the shark may have been between 12 and 15 feet long.

As a precaution, Sheriff’s Office staff posted notices in the area Saturday afternoon to warn the public about the possible shark sighting.
