Today's Shooting Claim Unfounded; Reporting Party on Drugs, Police Say

A nearby school was put on lockdown as officers investigated.

By Bay City News

Reports of a shooting in Santa Cruz that prompted the lockdown of a school earlier today were false and the person who reported it was on drugs, according to the Santa Cruz Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 500 block of Errett Circle this afternoon, and a nearby school was put on lockdown until officers secured the area, police said.

Residents in the area of Errett Circle were urged to shelter in place, police said.

Once police had secured the area, they determined that there was no threat and the reports of a shooter in the area were false, police said.

The person who made the report was arrested for being under the influence of drugs and making a false report of an emergency, police said.
