Four vacancies exist. Application deadline is May 9.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office has four vacancies for Deputy Sheriff and is accepting applicants through May 9.

For the second time since 2009, the Sheriff's Office is recruiting for qualified applicants who wish to become Deputy Sheriffs and attend the police academy.

The application process is also open to those with a basic California POST academy certificate and those currently attending a California POST academy.

The four vacancies -- and there may be more in the future -- are due to attrition and retirement, officials said.

Those interested should submit an application for Deputy Sheriff Trainee to www.jobaps.com/sc by 11:59 p.m. May 9.

The Sheriff's Office also has ongoing recruitment for  Lateral Deputy Sheriff and Academy Graduate. Interested parties should review the qualifications at the same web address.

The recruitment process began April 18.
