Santa Cruz Cyclist Killed in Arizona

The man succumbed to his injuries nearly a week after the collision, according to media reports.

A 71-year-old Santa Cruz man died after he was hit by a truck while biking in Arizona last month, according to authorities in Pinal County, AZ.

The Casa Grande Dispatch reported that Frank Elliot was riding his bike the morning of July 25 when he was hit from behind by a pickup. Elliot was able to tell officers he had been riding near the white line on the edge of the road when he was struck by a truck.

He suffered head trauma and broken bones, and was flown to a hospital in Scottsdale for treatment. He died there six days after the collision, the Casa Grande Dispatch reported.

The driver suspected of hitting Elliot, 83-year-old Frank Sprinkles, was cited for driving without a license and failing to yield to a cyclist, but those charges were withdrawn after the cyclist died. The incident is now being investigated by the Pinal County District Attorney's Office.
