Santa Cruz Fire Rescues Person Who Fell Off Westside Cliff

The noon rescue took about 25 minutes.

Santa Cruz firefighters closed down West Cliff Drive for 25 minutes in the early afternoon Sunday to rescue a person who had fallen from the cliff near Merced Avenue.

Three engines, 17 firefighters, one truck, an ambulance, a lifeguard and batallion chief and Santa Cruz Police responded to the call, which closed West Cliff Drive for almost a half hour.

The victim was injured and taken to Dominican Hospital.
