A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a
concealed firearm in a vehicle in Santa Cruz on Wednesday night.
The Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team's gang Task force stopped a
driver for a vehicle code violation on state Highway 1 at Soquel Avenue
around 10:15 p.m., Sgt. Stefan Fish said.
A member of the task force saw the driver with a firearm that was
concealed and later found to be unloaded, Fish said.
The task force found ammunition in the vehicle and learned the
driver's license was suspended, according to Fish.
The driver was identified as Santa Cruz resident Esteban Ruiz who
was arrested on suspicion of possession of a concealed firearm on his person,
possession of a concealed firearm within a vehicle and driving with a
Wednesday's arrest resulted in the task force's 19th gun seized by
the task force this year, Fish said.
