Santa Cruz Man Arrested for Killing a Parrot

David Miles, 32, threw the parrot on the ground and stomped on it after it bit him, according to a sheriff's report.

A Santa Cruz man was arrested in Boulder Creek by Santa Cruz County Sheriff's deputies after he reportedly threw a 17-year-old parrot on the ground and stomped on it after it bit him.

David Miles, 32, was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty for the death of the parrot named Huey, Sunday at 11:39 p.m.

Miles was visiting a home on the 100 block of Madrona Road in Boulder Creek when the parrot jumped on him and began biting him. Witnesses said he threw the parrot on the ground and began stomping on it.

Deputies said Miles didn't appear to have any injuries from the parrot.

Miles was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on animal cruelty charges.
