Santa Cruz Police and Parks Officers Wait Tables for Tips

No, they aren't that broke from the city's budget cuts. It was for a great charity.

Santa Cruz law enforcers showed up in uniform to act as wait people at the clubhouse at DeLaveaga Golf Course Wednesday.

They took orders, and delivered food and drinks in a way that was friendly, but wasn't going to get them hired.

Asked what she thought of their wait skills, and whether she would hire them, a pro waitress summed it up in one word.

That aside, it was a great place to meet and greet officials from various cities who were there to support Special Olympics by putting extra large tips in envelopes.

There was no pressure to donate, which made some want to donate even more.

The only cop who had much experience in the job was Santa Cruz Police Chief Kevin Vogel, who had been a waiter while he was at DeAnza College in Cupertino.

No one asked the waitress how she would score on the shooting range.
