Santa Cruz Police Catch Daytime Burglar, Recover Laptop

A man allegedly entered a house, took a laptop and fled. Police caught a suspect and found the laptop.

At around 3 p.m. a victim in a house on the 100 block of Ocean Street heard noise on the ground floor of their house and saw a man prowling around.

They called police after finding that a laptop was gone. 

Motorcycle officer Bill Clayton heard the call and spotted the green 1995 Nissan Altima that pulled away from the house. When he tried to stop the car, a man fled.

After a yard to yard search by other officers, they found a suspect, Manuel Araujo III in an apartment. They also found a backpack in a trashcan with the laptop.

Araujo, 28, was booked on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property and driving on a suspended license.
