Update: Santa Cruz Police Catch Morning Burglar Christmas Eve Day

A 26-year-old man was picked up with burglary tools after a man spotted him coming out of his garage.

A man on the 800 block of Seabright Avenue called police around 8:50 a.m. Friday after he saw a man leaving his garage. When the homeowner checked the garage he saw a bicycle lock almost cut off.

Police stopped a man who matched the description near Cayuga and Logan streets and found him with burglary tools. They arrested Zachary Mifflin, 26, on suspicion of burglary and probation violation.

The victim said the lock connected to his bicycle had been almost
cut off -- he has been locking his bicycle up in his garage since the July
theft attempt, police said.
