Santa Cruz Police Department Welcomes 3 New Officers

The Santa Cruz Police Department swore in three new officers last week: Brent Northupp, Nick Kramer and Kelly Hobbs. Northupp served the department from 1996 to 2006 before being relocated to Roseville PD to meet family obligations. He brings an expertise in cybercrime to the department. Kramer, who graduated from Watsonville High in 2002, worked in the wine industry for the past 5 years before putting himself through the police academy by working full time. Hobbs is also a local graduate and will be working in Santa Cruz's parks and downtown area as a Community Service Officer. With five officers out with long-term injuries, there are 16 total positions which currently aren't filled, a shortage which puts significant strain on the staff that is working.
