Santa Cruz Police Run With Special Olympic Torch

You are invited to watch and help on June 15.

When motorcycle officer Tom Bailey retired last week, he said one of the best things he did as a police officer was work for the Special Olympics.

The police department will do its annual run with the torch Wednesday as it winds its way from Los Angeles to U.C. Davis, where the games will be held June 24-26. Police pick up the torch at 12:30 the Sheriff’s office at the Harbor entrance on Fifth Avenue and carry it past the Boardwalk to Pacific Avenue and then run to the County Courthouse where we will hand the torch to the District Attorney’s Office.

It will also be carried by police from Watsonville, Capitola, the Sheriff's office and Scotts Valley police as it wends its way along the coast, by State Park and Brighton Beach to downtown Santa Cruz.

Only police officers will carry the torch and 85,000 of them nationwide will participate.

Anyone who would like to help with the fundraising can go to sonc.org and donate on-line to the Santa Cruz Police Department team. There are also fundraising t-shirts that people can purchase. They are $15 each and are dark blue.
